Walkathon

Janne Ritskes, our Sunday morning parishioner, is the driving force behind the Nokor Tep Women's Hospital now under construction.  The hospital is designed to better medical care for women, especially women with cancer.  Hospitals are expensive and this Saturday, 8 February, is the latest in the annual walkathons to support this worthy endeavor.  Call (095) 779-282 or click on www.nokor-tep.net for more information.  Walk yourself or sponsor someone who does!

Blood Donations

Next Sunday, 9 February, the National Blood Transfusion Center will hold a blood collection campaign at St. Joseph Church from 8:00 to 11:30 AM.  PLEASE come if you are able to donate!  This is one really invaluable contribution we can make to the betterment of Cambodia!  Dr. Jean-Luc Verselin, a volunteer doctor with the Paris Foreign Mission society (Bishop Olivier's group) attests to the standards and safety of donating blood here.

Getting to know you...

Pope Francis has appeared on the covers of TIME, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and other magazines.  We can't make you that famous but we do want to put your picture in this newsletter so that your brother and sister parishioners will get to know who you are.  Our photographers will be asking members to allow a photo before and after masses.  Please help us to get to know each other better.

Check out these members of our parish--and say Hello to them next weekend!

Giving Tree Donation

During Advent we had a Giving Tree activity in which we collected money for St. Luke House and St. Elizabeth House.  These are two houses for poor, sick people from the provinces who come to Phnom Penh for medical treatment.  We collected $2,300 for them, and the director of the Catholic Medical Pastoral Committee, Ms. Betty Millena, has sent a letter thanking us.  Here is her letter:
                                                                                                       24 January 2014

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Greetings of PEACE!

The Spirit of Christmas constantly lingers in our two sick shelters, St. Elizabth in Boeung Tum Pun and St. Luke in Tuol Kork!

It is because of your loving concern to support us in our ministry to the sick.

Your generous contribution is a big help indeed in letting us continue Christ's ministry of healing to our sick poor brothers and sisters in Cambodia.

Though words are not enough to express our gratitude, we say,

A MILLION THANKS TO EACH ONE OF YOU!

May  our Lord be your reward.

With grateful hearts and prayers,

Beatriz Millena
Health Pastoral Committee Coordinator
